Worried about your bleeding gums? Does it look swollen? Do you know that bleeding gums is a symptom of gum disease? Gum disease is a condition where the gum line is inflamed. Its cause is the bacterial growth in your mouth, and as it continues to spread it might end up to tooth loss or an even worst case of a dental complication. It has three stages – the Gingivitis as the mildest, then it may develop into Periodontitis and Advance Periodontitis.

Gum disease damages the structures that support the teeth if left untreated. Here at Modern Family Dentistry, we aim to restore the natural function of your mouth as we provide you the treatment for Gum disease under our General Dentistry services.

Gum Disease

Stages of Gum Disease

  • Gingivitis is the mildest form of gum disease wherein your gum is irritated. However, the bone and tissue of your tooth are not yet damaged at this stage, and your tooth is still firmly connected to its socket.
  • If gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to Periodontitis. In this stage, the bone and fibers that hold the teeth in place are damaged. Pockets are starting to form in the gum line which can trap foods and bacteria that can cause further damage.
  • Advanced Periodontitis is the severe stage of gum disease wherein the fibers and bones from your teeth are destroyed. It can now affect the way you bite, chew, and communicate. Teeth might also start to shift or loosen. Professional periodontal therapy is needed for its treatment, to prevent cases of tooth loss or other dental complications.
